If you are looking for the Tbilisi restaurant with the best view many Tbilisi travel guides will send you to the Funicular restaurant on top of the hill. Undoubtedly the restaurant in Tbilisi with the best view, but not really my favorite spot though. A little bit too fancy! 23.
Jun 26, 2024 · I spent 5 days in Tbilisi however we were purposely exploring slowly and did a lot of chilling too. I would say 2 or 3 days in Tbilisi is a good amount of time to see the city if you’re on time constraints, otherwise, you can easily pass 5 days there if you have the time. There’s a lot to see in Tbilisi actually!
- Marvelling at horizon-stretching views. Reached on a funicular railway that trundles up a vertigo-inducing cliff face, Tbilisi's best views are from atop Mt Mtatsminda.
- Immersing yourself in modern architecture. Tbilisi's architectural collage of faded Art Nouveau apartments, 19th-century wooden buildings and Soviet-era tower blocks has been enlivened over recent years with audacious modern structures.
- Meeting Mother Georgia. From the Mtkvari's northern bank, a gondola system swings lazily over the river and soars above the Old Town to the Narikala Fortress.
- Wandering the Old Town's meandering streets. Winding lazily downhill from Freedom Square, Tbilisi's atmospheric Old Town is characterised by wooden structures with carved verandas and narrow shopfronts filled with cafes, wine bars and art galleries.
- Do get out and explore the city on foot. Tbilisi is the product of centuries of influence from all four corners of the globe. Its position at the frontier of Europe and Asia and location on the old Silk Road has gifted the city with a huge mix of architectural styles and traditions.
- Do read-up on the sulphur bath etiquette. Nude or not, that is the question! The Abanotubani sulfur baths are a Tbilisi institution and a must-do when you visit – just be warned that the etiquette is quite different to what you might have experienced in Istanbul or Budapest.
- Don’t even think about eating khinkali with a knife and fork. Khinkali ‘soup dumplings’ are without a doubt one of Georgia’s most famous foods. These little dough parcels originated in the mountains and are said to be a descendent of Xiaolongbao introduced by way of the Mongols (you can see the resemblance in the shape).
- Don’t throw bread in the bin. As you move around Tbilisi and the rest of Georgia, you might notice plastic bags tied to the outside of dumpster bins. Bread is considered sacred and it’s taboo to bin even your crusts, thus many people package up their leftovers and leave them outside.

Standing 30-meter tall, this massive 16-pilar monument overlooks the Tbilisi sea. The shape, decorations, and structure are spectacular and definitely worth a visit, as it is free to visit and open 24/7.
