Summoner in calamity is way better than in vanilla. In some cases it could be better than others. Just try to remember the summoner mechanics that you lose 20% summon damage if you are holding a weapon that does any other classes damage, and gain a 10% boost if you hold a summon item.

Personally, I've played through calamity deathmode a ridiculous amount of times through moon lord, didnt often make it past, and mage/ranger was super insane for me. I did a rogue playthrough just recently, and had trouble finding a strong single target weapon late hardmode.
