Feb 17, 2020 · The Old Jail in St.Augustine is one of the most haunted places not only in the district but the whole of the United States. It is a brick building that seems to amass vengeful spirits, each and everyone damming the living and yearning to take out their anger and frustration on mortal flesh.
St. Augustine’s Old Jail is one of the most haunted locations in the city. Listed on the Florida and National Register of Haunted Places, tourists and locals alike visit the Old Jail to experience the supernatural stories firsthand.
- Casa de la Paz. In the early 1900s the Casa de la Paz served as a bed and breakfast in the area. People who had the opportunity to stay in the Queen Isabella room may have sensed the presence of someone else in the room.
- Flagler College – Ponce De Leon Hall. Long before Ponce de Leon Hall became part of Flagler College it was Ponce de Leon Hotel. It is said that on the fourth floor of the building lived Henry Flagler’s mistress.
- 26 Toques Place. The former Bed & Breakfast that resides at 26 Toques Place once served as a servants quarters. It was moved to its current location after the main house on the estate burned to the ground.
- Huguenot Cemetery. In the early 1820s there was a need for a cemetery for victims of yellow fever as well as people who were not practicing Catholics.
- The Old Jail. The old jail in St Augustine was built by Henry Flagler in 1881. He built it as an upgrade from the original jail, which was said to have been an eyesore.
- Tolomato Cemetery. Tolomato Cemetery is arguably the oldest cemetery in Florida. It is also one of the best St Augustine haunted spots. It is the official final resting place of around a thousand St. Augustine residents.
- Castillo de San Marcos. Castillo de San Marcos was constructed in 1672 by the Spanish. It is a star-shaped fortification composed of coquina, causing it to be very strong and able to withstand heavy artillery.
- St Augustine Lighthouse. This historic lighthouse has been functioning for centuries. Even before it was an operational lighthouse, it acted as a wooden watchtower that was built by the Spanish in the late 1500’s to keep an eye out for enemies while the Castillo de San Marcos was still under construction.
