   Aug 27, 2015 · Some independent shops still sell Simond hardware so I guess the original company still exists in some form, and does good gear, but the Simond branded clothing is now just Decathlon's mountaineering range. Their helmets in particular look fantastic value.

   Simond gear is guinualy good. It's more catered towards beginning/intermediate climbers, but we do have some nice high end stuff as well. Price/quality wise it's already great, and since I've got an employee reduction of 30% on top of that, I almost exclusively use Simond stuff.

   I am planning on buying the Simond Alpinism Trousers after reading lots of good things about them, but I also noticed their Alpinism jacket. Looks pretty good and Aquaguard (maybe not official YKK but at least large toothed) main zipper on a £130 jacket is awesome.

   All the Simond gear is good. I believe the ropes are made by the French brand "Cousin" but then sold as Simond by Decathlon. Also, all the hard gear (carabiners, ice axes, crampons...) are made by the original Simond factory in Chamonix, they've been around since 1860!

   Dec 11, 2016 · I've had a pair of the softshell trousers for a while now and they are ridiculously good for the money. I've got a few of the heavy base layers that are ME Eclipse / patagucci r1 clones which are toasty. I've recently picked up the Simond hybrid insulated jacket which has been awesome.

   Is Simond a good brand?

   • However, of course, some people may actually prefer the feel of the Simond ones, which is great as they're the cheaper! I think Simond is great for some things - belay jackets, bags and jackets have been mentioned, but for others, perhaps where the feel is important, like a rope or draws I'd tend to go for a different brand.

   Are Simond climbing ropes any good?

   • I got my last climbing rope from them. It's a 70m and 9.5mm in diameter. I really like it, very smooth and very easy to undo the knots after being weighted. All the Simond gear is good. I believe the ropes are made by the French brand "Cousin" but then sold as Simond by Decathlon.

   Is Simond a good climbing company?

   • (Picked up a 50m with triple rating for 40$). Both have been bomber. Simond was a great French climbing company that was bought by Decathlon. Decathlon is like the "acme" of gear. It's all good. It's just a little heavier, the logo isn't as nice, and it's a lot cheaper than the high end brands.
