   Aug 30, 2021 · Simond are an old Chamonix family who have been making good equipment for a long time. In 2008 Simond became part of the Decathlon group and enjoy all the advantages found with economy of scale. In my opinion there are no downsides, buy their kit and enjoy it.

   Simond gear is guinualy good. It's more catered towards beginning/intermediate climbers, but we do have some nice high end stuff as well. Price/quality wise it's already great, and since I've got an employee reduction of 30% on top of that, I almost exclusively use Simond stuff.

   Feb 27, 2019 · As we don't really need 100m ropes for climbing in the UK I didn't want to spend too much. The Simond rope was £130. The major brands were all well over £200 for that length of rope. Of course, those ropes might be better in the long term, or have better handling etc., but cost was a factor.

   Dec 11, 2016 · As others have said, the Simond brand has been around for decades. Their Chacal axe back in the 70's was a game changer. I recently bought a pair of their Alpinism Pants and Cascade gloves. Both are just as good as their equivelent from high end brands costing 4 times as much.

   I have only had experience with a scrambling confidence rope from Simond, as well as a few bits of mountaineering clothing - which all performed well - but they are a reliable brand that is omnipresent in the European climbing and alpinism scene.

   • However, of course, some people may actually prefer the feel of the Simond ones, which is great as they're the cheaper! I think Simond is great for some things - belay jackets, bags and jackets have been mentioned, but for others, perhaps where the feel is important, like a rope or draws I'd tend to go for a different brand.

   Is Simond a scam?

   • It’s not a conspiracy or crazy marketing scam on the part of other brands. You’ll find Simond gear to be on the whole bulkier (crampons), quicker to wear (dynamic rope sheath), heavy (carabiners, quickdraws, shoes), and hard to pack down small (down jackets).

   Are Simond climbing ropes any good?

   • I got my last climbing rope from them. It's a 70m and 9.5mm in diameter. I really like it, very smooth and very easy to undo the knots after being weighted. All the Simond gear is good. I believe the ropes are made by the French brand "Cousin" but then sold as Simond by Decathlon.

   Is Simond a good climbing company?

   • (Picked up a 50m with triple rating for 40$). Both have been bomber. Simond was a great French climbing company that was bought by Decathlon. Decathlon is like the "acme" of gear. It's all good. It's just a little heavier, the logo isn't as nice, and it's a lot cheaper than the high end brands.
