Who is Richard Sharpe?
Sharpe's Sword is a historical novel in the Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell. It is the fourth in the series, being first published in 1983, though the fifteenth chronologically.
Over the same period, Sharpe also has affairs with an English governess, Sarah Fry (Sharpe's Escape); Caterina Veronica Blazquez, a prostitute who has beguiled Henry Wellesley, Sir Arthur's brother (Sharpe's Fury); and the French spy Hélène Leroux (Sharpe's Sword, Sharpe's Honour).
Sharpe should have carried the 1796 Light Cavalry Saber, but instead preferred the "butcher's blade" that he was given by Captain Murray. His earlier sword experiences in India had him carrying what he managed to pick up on the battlefield.
It is based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Bernard Cornwell, though it is set a year later (1813) than the book. Plot. On the French-Spanish frontier, a French patrol led by a colonel of Napoleon 's Imperial Guard overtakes a carriage containing a priest and three nuns.
