It’s a little worse than Sadako 3D, but a little better than Rings (2017). Worth a watch but go in with low expectations. Edit: Worth mentioning the version of Sadako 2019 I watched was fan-subbed.
The opening film at the 2019 Fantasia international Film Festival, it begins with something very old but still pertinent in Japanese society: the idea of reincarnation. A little girl (Himeka Himejima) is locked in a closet with only a mobile – of the traditional, suspended kind – for entertainment.
The Sadako 3D movies gave me a good laugh at how ridiculous they were, so there's that. But Sadako 2019 I thoroughly enjoyed. Ring 2 and ring 0 were decent but not anything remarkable imo.

Jul 13, 2019 · While Sadako is wonderful when it comes to generating a psychological tensive atmosphere, it falls short when it comes to framing horror. The visual elements, aiming at horror, miss their effect as they aid the unfolding of the narrative, instead of disturbing this unfolding as such.
