  1. The book, essentially, is not really all that scary, just pretty tense. All in all, read the book if you want a REALLY good story (minus one character that sucks) and watch the movie if you want a good scare.

  2. Jan 1, 2001 · The hit movie The Ring, starring Naomi Watts, is based off a Japanese movie called Ringu ("ring" in Japanese), and Ringu is based off of Koji Suzuki's novel Ring. Most people probably know this story from the former two sources, but I thought Ring the book was excellent in its own right.

There are many key differences between the Ring novel and the 1998 film adaptation. Most notably, Asakawa in the novel is a man named Kazuyuki, while in the film, Asakawa is a woman named Reiko (whose name may have been a nod to Kaoru Futami's girlfriend in Loop). Kazuyuki has a wife and daughter; Reiko is divorced (from Ryuji), and she has a son n...

  5. I think Ringu is a bit better than The Ring. It has less production, but I like that, it makes it feel gritty compared to watching actors from Hollywood in the remake. The end is creepier in the Japanese version than the American.

  7. May 17, 2022 · Review of Ring, Book 1 by Koji Suzuki. I am going to assume that most of you have seen The Ring, or Ringu. They’re incredibly popular horror movies and The Ring is probably one of my favorites of all time. I rewatched it recently and it definitely holds up as a truly scary movie.
