Riddick lead the Necromongers for five years, but refused to go to the Underverse, and didn't conquer any new worlds. Eventually Riddick agreed to pass the Lord Marshal title to Vaako, in return of a way to his homeplanet Furya .

I'm a big fan of the Riddick franchise. I've always wondered what makes a Necromonger a Necromonger. They don't breed, but are "made" by some sort of process shown in Chronicles - a metal instrument applied to the neck that leaves a mark.

Especially since, yes, as Riddick's legacy clearly goes with the Necromonger, it wasn't a long relationship nor meant to last. There's a lot of potential for more details in these movies, at least for Necromongers in my opinion, that are teased at but not expressly stated.
With the assistance of Jack (who has abandoned that name in favor of Kyra while in prison), Riddick ultimately overthrows the Necromonger leader, the Lord Marshal, and assumes his position as the new leader of the Necromongers..
