- Prince of Darkness is disappointing. Yes, this is a John Carpenter film, the whole film feels its unique style. But Prince of Darkness doesn't compare at all with the director's other films, especially The Thing. Prince of Darkness has a very mediocre plot in which there is almost no action or development.

I'd seen most John Carpenter films before, but last year I tried to catch up on some of the few that I hadn't seen, namely Christine, Prince of Darkness and Village of the Damned. Prince of Darkness is now one of my favourites of his. The Thing and Halloween will always be objectively good.

Prince of Darkness. 339 reviews. Hide spoilers. Review. Ratings Show all. Sort by Featured. 8/10. Effective and Eerie. One of the Director's most underrated Movies. This is almost a bona-fide Classic. The thing that keeps it from such an exalted status is a few major missteps.
It's one of the worst horror movies I've ever seen. I am really truly questioning myself on whether I'm actually watching the same movie as you guys whenever someone praises this movie. I recently just finished watching The Apocalypse Trilogy, so this is the lowest recommendation on this list.
