    • Police Academy 3 – Back In Training. The third installment of Police Academy has actually got a decent Airplane! silliness going for it. It starts referring to the previous two films, including a joke you only get if you’ve seen the first one.
    • Police Academy 2 – Their First Assignment. This is like a SyFy film. Just as those fail at being a proper drama, these fail at being a comedy. Admittedly, if you want a laugh, it’s not a terrible idea to watch a SyFy film.
    • Police Academy. The thing is, despite The Simpsons‘ insistence that nobody was laughing, I do remember seeing Police Academy movies on TV and enjoying them when I was in primary school.
    • Police Academy 6 – City Under Siege. Captain Harris gets a good joke at the start of this film. This is possibly the only time this happens in the entire franchise.

Since half of the Police Academy films tend to boast a 0% Tomatometer rating from critics, it only seems right to include the Audience Score as well. The sixth and final film in the series to date, Mission to Moscow, is the least favorable among casual filmgoers. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the Police Academy movies decrease in quality with each passing entry. As such, the original 1984 film still ranks as the best of the bunch. Directed by Hugh Wilson, the film set the formula for the next six films to come. A good-natured but inept group of police trainees put their superiors through a series of immatur...

    • Police Academy 1. I consider it an 80s classic. It just has such charm compared to the others, in the characters and the way it’s made. Great characters.
    • Police Academy 3 – Back in Training. There is still some bad editing in this one, but a little bit of that is part of the Police Academy charm. In general this one is made better than 2.
    • Police Academy 5 – Assignment: Miami Beach. Again this movie is much better made than, in particular, 2 and 3. It’s the first movie without Mahoney, but to be honest I didn’t miss him too much.
    • Police Academy 4 – Citizens on Patrol. More like a properly made movie. Better shots and cuts. Great skateboarding scene! Great how they all get screen credits at the end.

  5. For those who do not know, there are currently 7 Police Academy movies and a Television show that ran for one season. What I have always enjoyed about this franchise is that it has always maintained a pretty strong continuity throughout the series. These are not juat individual movies with their own separate storylines.
