May 31, 2019 · Monster is like nothing we've seen in Tamil cinema. It's a live-action cartoon—the closest example I can think of is Home Alone. Instead of a boy trying to save his home from thieves, we have a man trying to rid his home of a rat. The man is Anjanam, and SJ Surya plays him perfectly.
May 20, 2019 · Released on the same day as Mr.Local, Monster too is a comedy but the two films couldn't be more different. Both are meant to be family movies with a love story at its centre yet Monster comes from a place of wholesomeness Mr.Local can't even aspire for.
May 17, 2019 · Monster can easily fit into the category of films for kids and this is such a rarity in Tamil cinema where they try to add ingredients for adults even in a film targeted at the kids. But Nelson seems to be in no such confusion as he delivers a neat comedy that should be lapped up by the kids and quite an enjoyable outing for the adults as well.
Tamil movies don't have a great track record of being child-friendly in recent times. We make good movies - but far too many on caste violence, gang tussles, crazy killers and even crazier ghosts; which is why Monster impressed me.
