Recruitment Centers Around Campfires
Previously, some of the regular villagers could be wooed, but that started making some issues crop up down the generational lines. Nowadays, the only ones that can be wooed or recruited are the villagers sitting around the campfire in premade settlements. They have little human-shaped icons next to their names and will show their stats in inspection mode. Additionally, any female character recruited into the player's village can be wooed, unless they marry a male character they are housed wit...
Housing Rules Affect Family Planning
Houses are essentially the way to tell the game to produce children, so unfortunately, it is not possible to house same-sex adults together initially. Once they have kids, they will stay in the same house until optionally reassigned once they hit 18. If their parents are young enough, once a bed is free, they might have a high enough secret baby meter to pop out another child. They can have as many kids as there are available beds — so up to two living with them at a time. Siblings cannot be...
Maintain Villagers Happy to Prevent Exodus
Mood is a mechanic that doesn't affect much at all and only really matters at -100. If it hits that low, the villager will leave with their families. Giving them well-insulated houses, having their needs met, assigning them to preferred jobs, letting them get to level 10 in that job, and allowing them to have families will all boost their mood, as will some random events during the season shift. Affection is a mechanic the player character's wife gets. If that hits 0%, she will leave, taking...
Optimize Farmer Efficiency with Proximity
Villagers can be housed and assigned to work on opposite sides of the mapif the player so chooses and it will not affect production. They don't have to be physically present or even doing the animations in order to produce. However, like most things, there is an exception to this rule. Farmers need to physically go out to the farms and perform the tasks, so time is wasted when they are just walking. Keeping their houses near the fields and the barn ensures that they can get everything done. O...
Efficient Resource Distribution System
Villagers can pull from the storage buildings to fill their needs or perform their jobs, as long as these things are put into the correct storage building. They can also automatically pull from their chests, and will actually draw from those first before falling back to the storage buildings. Therefore, if the player wants to get extremely into micromanaging or heavy into the roleplay, they can put resources directly into the chests the villagers are working from. An additional, cute note is...
Invest in Future Generations for Better Skills
It can be tempting to only have villagers of one sex to prevent mothers from taking two years off after they give birth. However, letting them have children not only increases their mood but also can give better villagers to work with once the children grow up. This is because children are assigned their stats based on the average of their parents. Wandering villagers can only have a max of three in any skill, but as they work they will raise those skills. Therefore, it is possible to have a...
Survival Hinges on Weather Management
Temperature is a pretty normal mechanic in survival games. Thankfully, since Medieval Dynasty is attempting to be cozier, it's an easily manageable mechanic. Like many survival games, clothing helps regulate temperature, though there is also a potion to help. Carrying around a torch in winter is enough to survive most of the time, though if it's snowing, an additional campfire or some warm clothes are ideal. Summer is hot and can be combated with clothes easily. Some events can adjust the sea...
High Reputation Unlocks More Opportunities
Dynasty Reputation is a small number that appears every time the player finishes a quest. It's how the player is perceived in the valley and doesn't really matter all that much in the long run. There are two exceptions, however. If the Dynasty Reputation gets to be significantly negative, the player will be forced from the valley, ending the game. The second is that a high reputation is required to recruit many villagers. It's less important on default settings than one with a higher building...
Age Gaps Influence Marriage and Procreation
Villagers need to be housed to keep their mood from slipping to the point that they leave the village. Any house can have a pair of people put inside. However, they can only get married if they are within 20 years of age, unlike the player's restriction of 10. With some luck and early marriage, a couple can produce more than the standard two children if their kids are moved out on time. If the pair are too far apart in age, they will never have children, so it would be a safe bet if wanting t...
Enhance Village Life with Custom Seating
When the villagers are in their free time, they find a place to visit with other villagers. Sometimes it's just standing around looking like they are talking to one another, but other times they will search for a seat. This includes seats that the player has put down as long as they are within their path. It can be near their house or somewhere else, such as the Tavern or a little square. It just needs to be somewhere around where they frequent, such as between their house and where they work...
Aug 4, 2023 · Having a large city can be overwhelming with keeping track of everyone, what they're doing, and what they've done. I figured out a few tricks to help in a general sort of way, most of it geared toward minimizing micromanagement.
At it's absolute core: it's a sandbox village building and management game. There are elements of survival, exploration, RPG style questing, and progression elements as well. It's kinda a unique game with its own charm and flavor.
