Patron saint of learning, school children, students, beekeepers, candle makers, bees and domestic animals. St. Ambrose was born around the year 340 in Trier, Germany. In the year 374, at the age of 34, he was baptized and consecrated as bishop of Milan, Italy, giving away his wealth to the church and to the poor as an example to others.
Within a week's time, Ambrose was baptized, ordained and duly consecrated bishop of Milan on December 7, 374. As bishop, he donated all of his land and gave his money to the poor. This made him widely popular and often times more politically powerful than even the emperor. He studied theology with Simplician, a presbyter of Rome.

He attended St. Charles Preparatory School, Columbus, and continued there at St. Charles College, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He then attended Mt. St. Mary of the West Seminary, Norwood, Ohio, and the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.
