If you just watch the movie and episodes 11 and up, there's still a good show there. Their biggest mistake was abandoning the setup the movie left them with: Michael and KITT, an old man leading the team (Graiman), a small support team (Sarah and Carrie), a mobile base of operations (cargo plane), and a "One man can make a difference" theme.
You aren't missing anything on the Knight Rider2010. I remember it vaguely as being a HUGE disappointment! Nothing in relation to the show except to cash in a crappy movie with the name.
