Jim Sheridan had crafted what seemed to me to be an almost flawless movie. It was beautifully filmed, and very well written. The characters were strong, and I came to care for each one of them.
One of the earlier films of the recent trend of remaking newer foreign films, Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” is a worthy movie in its own right and stands out as a modern classic. Based on the Danish film “Brodre,” “Brothers” is about a military and family man, portrayed by Tobey Maguire, that gets deployed overseas to Afghanistan.
Brothers: Directed by Jim Sheridan. With Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, Sam Shepard. While on tour in Afghanistan, Sam's helicopter is shot down and he is presumed dead. Back home, it is his screw-up brother who looks after the family.
