Nov 13, 2015 · “James White” is a masterful examination of how our behavior and the excuses we make about our lives fall away under certain, life-changing conditions. Most of us have dealt with grief, loss and pain in our lives, and it does something to you.
It helps that the movie — an intimate, 85-minute portrait of a mother battling serious illness (Cynthia Nixon) and her self-destructing 20-something son (Abbott) — is really, really good.
Deliberately disorientating at first with its collage of high volume musical scraps, its distorted visuals and deliberately patchy editing, James White the film comes into focus as its central character does, and like him, its seems perpetually on the point of lurching off balance again.
This movie revolves around the unfortunate events that continuously plague James White (Christopher Abott) in this harrowing spiral into addiction and utter darkness. This movie is extremely character driven, relying heavily on the actors performances.
