That said, Gou was still enjoyable, but don't expect something as good as Kai. I consider the first two seasons of the original anime a master piece. That is probably the BEST way you could adapt a visual novel into an anime….
Jul 12, 2009 · Higurashi doesn't have "great" characters, a great "story" or decent art. But it does have an amazing atmosphere with great pacing and is generally one of the better mind fucks. It isn't like NGE or lain with a lot of hidden messages in it.
The original was not a thorough adaptation of the VN but it was a really enjoyable one, since it contained most of the major story elements in it. I had a lot of fun watching the old Higurashi anime (which served to advertise the VN). Then I tried out the VN, which was simply better.
While the first anime is definitely not as good as the vn, most fans will tell you that it's an excellent anime on it's own, it's perfectly enjoyable and there are worse adaptations out there (looking at you, Studio DEEN's Umineko)but it lacks a lot of the details and immersion from the vn.
The anime is still decent imo, but it does leave out a lot of information and specific scenes that are important to certain arcs/characters. If you’ve read the VN, you’ll notice it a lot. If you haven’t, it’s decent enough to get through it while still enjoying it.
