We knew it would happen. Ever since it was first announced that the Neo Geo would be added to the lineup of the Virtual Console's consoles, we've known that a seemingly never-ending string of sequels would be soon to appear in the Wii Shop. And that's because that's what the Neo Geo had in its day -- nicknamed the "Fighter's System," it was mostly known as the home to regular, recurring follow-ups to its multiple different fighting franchises. Some of them had over 10 distinct, sequential sequels on the same piece of hardware -- all of them candidates to some day show up in downloadable form for Wii. So we got Fatal Fury last year on the day the Neo made its VC debut, and here to begin the parade of sequels is, of course, Fatal Fury 2.
Luckily, Fatal Fury 2 is enough of a step up over its predecessor that it's definitely worth your consideration, if you're a fighting fan. This sequel fixes a lot of the faults found in the first Fatal Fury, the most egregious of which was the original's incredibly lacking list of playable characters. You could only pick to play as Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard or Joe Higarashi in Fatal Fury -- a grand total of three options to choose from. Fatal Fury 2 keeps those three heroes around, but rounds out the roster to a more respectable total count of eight.
Joining the cast are energetic old man Jubei Yamada, the overweight-but-agile Cheng Sinzan, Tae Kwon Do master Kim Kaphwan, firestarter Mai Shiranui and Big Bear, who's actually a playable version of the enormous wrestler Raiden from the first game (he just took off the luchador mask). Some of those names aren't so notable, but others are -- characters Kim and Mai, for instance, went on from their first appearance in this title and enjoyed lasting success in several of SNK's later fighters.

Jan 23, 2007 · Other than plane switching, what really defines the difference between Fatal Fury 2 and Street Fighter II is the feel of the two games and the nuances in how they are played. Fatal Fury 2 is more reactive and Street Fighter II is more combo oriented.
Sep 15, 2013 · There’s no great answer for that question, but I can tell you that Fatal Fury 2 for the Game Boy is not a bad game by any stretch. Sure, it’s slower than what most fighting game fans expect, but this doesn’t completely derail the game from being enjoyable.
