      • The show is not for the faint of heart, and sometimes the risks it takes fall flat, but for many, Dexter is a hidden gem. Rotten Tomatoes offers a range of opinions, but even there, things are conflicted. If an experimental and unique crime drama is worth adding to the watchlist, then it should be Dexter.

  2. Aug 5, 2024 · Dexter Tracks The Doomsday Killer To Lackluster Reviews. Many fans view Dexter season 6 as the worst season and that is understandable as it is when the show lost its way and never recovered. In the eyes of many, the biggest issue plaguing the sixth season is the mere fact it often feels very standalone.

  3. Dexter is an all around asshole and a horrible person. And yes, I know that's the point of the show, but that doesn't make it ok. TL;DR: Dexter is one of the worst shows I have ever seen.

The mishandling of Dexter season 6's themes is one of the main reasons that Dexter should have ended with season 5. For five seasons, the show expertly dove into its rich and intriguing premise of a serial killer who uses his Dark Passenger to save people and rid society of dangerous predators. The introduction of a religious angle for Dexterseason...

The Dexter season 6 Doomsday Killer twist didn't work because it was widely seen as predictable and unconvincing. Throughout the first few episodes of the season, the Doomsday Killer is implied to be Professor James Gellar (Edward James Olmos) who is quite obviously not actually present in his scenes. The attempted twist that Gellar was just a figm...

Dexter, who is typically incredibly sharp and cautious in all his actions and decisions, is uncharacteristically inept and unprepared throughout Dexter season 6. Dexter seems to completely abandon the lessons that he brutally learns from the loss of his wife Rita (Julie Benz) in season 4. He once again puts the lives of his family and the people cl...

Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) is one of the most frustrating aspects of Dexter season 6 for a number of reasons, particularly in the ways she is rushed into a promotion to lieutenant of Miami Metro Homicide. While the position opens up somewhat organically after the departure of former Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta (Luna Lauren Velez), it is a major stretch...

The continued underdevelopment of characters in Dexterseason 6 extended to its supporting roles, as well. The season 5 development of Deb's relationship with Quinn (Desmond Harrington) was all but abandoned in season 6 without much justification. Quinn proposes to Deb, who then dumps him to focus on her career in a rushed swing of events. The roman...

One of the best and most nuanced relationships throughout Dexter's first five seasons is the brother-and-sister dynamic between Dexter and Deb. The unique bond between the step-siblings is completely defiled by the jarring creative decision to have Deb fall in love with Dexter in season 6. The development is an incredibly unnecessary and strange re...

  4. Dexter is definitely worth watching until the end of season four. It started going downhill with season five. The seasonal villains are indeed more often than not serial killers but he kills regular killers too. His slides are for every single person he has killed, and that includes non-serial killers as well.

    • 1 Season 2 (2007) Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96% After a reasonably intense first season, Dexter's second season raised the stakes to a near ludicrous degree, setting the bar high enough that most of the seasons that followed failed to come close.
    • 2 Season 4 (2009) Rotten Tomatoes Score: 88% Dexter's fourth season sees the show at its most dramatic, intense, and emotionally devastating. Following the birth of Harrison, his and Rita's son, Dexter is now struggling to learn how to be a father, and all the while has an uneasy dynamic with Arthur Mitchell (John Lithgow), an older man who's also a serial killer like Dexter, albeit one who's worked out how to balance his murders with his family life.
    • 3 Season 5 (2010) Rotten Tomatoes Score: 84% It's something of a surprise to see season 5 of Dexter be near the top of the highest-rated seasons of the show according to Rotten Tomatoes critics.
    • 4 Season 1 (2006) Rotten Tomatoes Score: 82% Season 1 of Dexter is great television, with much of the show's success largely coming from how instantly engaging its pilot episode is.
