- Atmospheric and startlingly well performed by the cast, this is a compelling character study. Daphne may find people largely annoying, but there's inspiration in her determination to find her way.

Daphne's life is hectic, and she is entrenched in the daily rush of her restaurant job and an active nightlife full of new faces. She is the life of the party, but her acerbic humor hides the...

Sep 29, 2017 · Daphne is a brittle but functional thirtysomething, relatively privileged and living unencumbered in London; a single woman making desultory progress in her career as a chef and spending the rest of her time fooling around in the shallows of the dating pool.
This is a movie that's greatly understated, with only scarce moments of vividness punctuating the runtime. Emily Beecham draws every last vestige of nuance that she can out of her starring role as the title character. Daphne is morose, and somewhat despondent, in her directionless candor.

- Daphne: More of This, Please!
Though it may not sound it by the description, Daphne is not a bleak film. It’s quite the opposite. Visually textured, often using bright colours in the frame, Daphne feels light. It’s also incredibly clever in its design. Tiny details work to give us all information we need – Daphne owns a pet snake, a symbol of her desire to be independent, but a...
We all know that films about women, or with female protagonists, are on the rise and things are (very slowly) getting better. The thing about representation, though, is that creating only strong and likable women isn’t actually representation at all. Not all women are nice, friendly or accommodating. Not all women have to be relatable or compassion...
Daphne truly is a fascinating character study. Emily Beechamis astounding, portraying a layered and complex character, and one that we rarely see on screen. I, for one, want to see more Daphnes in the future. We’ve had scores of unlikable male characters grace our screens and I think it’s time for us to hit back a bit. Who is your favourite unlikab...

Sep 26, 2017 · Cool character-driven dramas about Londoners are a rare find, so it’s well worth seeking out the story of 31-year-old Daphne (Emily Beecham). She’s a sous chef.
A charming portrait of dysfunction, the depressig consequences of life as a manic pixie dream girl - except that's unfair, too cynical, too flippant, not focused on others, too concealing of actual damages - like Daphne herself.
