      • Crush the Castle is a great physics puzzler at an unbeatable price $1.99. For just two bucks now, you get almost 100 castles and a level editor. (Although, the value of the editor is lessened by not allowing you to trade stages.)

Recently, Crush the Castle received a significant update that adds forty new stages and a level editor. These additions put Crush back on my radar after initially seeing it last summer. Augmented by the plethora of new content, Crush the Castle – already a favorite of App Store denizens – deserved a new look. And my impressions of the improved game are largely positive.

In Crush the Castle, you control a trebuchet with the singular goal of bringing down a series of castles, killing everybody inside. All you need to do to accomplish this horrible (but fun) ambition is knock pieces of the castle – or your flung rock itself – into the kings, queens, a knights that seek refuge in their stone and metal homes. The fewer shots it takes the flatten the castle, the shinier the medal. After smashing through a series of castle in one territory (with fantasy names like Umbria and Dante Flats), the next set of castles opens on your world map.

Crush has a simple premise, but with 90 different castles and eight kinds of ammo (rocks, trios of stones, etc.) there is a lot of play in this small download. You will not be able to get single-shot finishes in early rounds with your limited ammo choices. But as you unlock bombs and more, you'll want to circle back and retry previous castles to go for the coveted gold medals. Truly, you get a lot of bang for your buck out of Crush. Plus, it is always refreshing to play a physics-based puzzler with consistency. Though the ammo acts differently and has varying effects on the different building materials, you never doubt the game's fairness. There is one clean rule set for the physics that you can count on from the first castle to the last.

(Although, the value of the editor is lessened by not allowing you to trade stages.) The upgrade really does improve the value of the game, which is why I am more than happy to circle back to it and recomm...
