Cloud Cuckoo Land was much better than Cloud Atlas, in my opinion. The themes and overall imagery were much more powerful in CCL.

I've yet to read Cloud Cuckoo Land, but I've heard positive comparisons to Cloud Atlas. Cloud Atlas is one of my favorites.
Sep 28, 2021 · Like David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, to which people are already comparing it, Cloud Cuckoo Land is a blend of invention and history, science fiction and fable, romance and war story. But in contrast to Mitchell’s sometimes cold and cerebral detachment, Doerr’s novel hums with sympathy for all his characters, even the most unpleasant one.
Agreed with the comments here that Station 11 and Cloud Atlas have a similar “flavor” to Cloud Cookoo Land. All stellar books.
