      • This teen hit, widely considered one of the best TV shows of all time, made a huge impact on the primetime landscape when it first aired in 1997. Though the special effects in Buffy the Vampire Slayer certainly look dated a few decades on, the show's energy and the sparky performances still make it a hugely enjoyable watch.

  2. It's absolutely worth a watch. Season 1 is rocky and far cheesier than the rest of the show- as is the first season of many shows. It also very much shows it's age and budget as a 90s to very early 2000s show from things like technology, styles, special effects.

  3. It's a show about teens, with teenage problems introduced in the context of monsters. The metaphors are pretty great. Season 1 is... not the best. I've rewatched this series many times now (I'm just starting season 5 again), and I don't think I've ever rewatched season 1.

  4. Mar 10, 2015 · Yes, it’s a whole 18 years since Sarah Michelle Gellar first picked up a stake and Buffy Summers began ridding Sunnydale of those pesky vampire fiends. The supernatural drama ran for a total of...

    • Angel. Relocating to Los Angeles, ensouled vampire Angel embarks on a quest to atone for his blood-drenched past. To that end, he teams up with aspiring-but-failing actress — and fellow "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"-alum — Cordelia Chase, as well as half-demon/half-Irishman seer Allen Francis Doyle, to form a private detective agency dedicated to "helping the helpless."
    • Crazyhead. "Crazyhead," described by Decider's Meghan O'Keefe as "an enchanting British import... that finally fills the void left by Joss Whedon's 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,'" follows two twenty-something seers who share a grim gift: they can see the true faces of the demons who've possessed other humans.
    • Veronica Mars. For the "Buffy" enthusiasts who appreciate the Slayer's fashion sense, snappy comebacks, and fierce determination to strike down the evil lurking in the shadows of her hometown, teen sleuth Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell of "The Good Place") essentially serves as Buffy's mystery genre counterpart.
    • Doctor Who. According to Anthony Head (Giles), the revived "Doctor Who," essentially a continuation of the classic, long-running British science fiction series, owes a lot to "Buffy" (via Fansided).
    • Season 4, Episode 18 – “Where the Wild Things Are” Tonally one of the strangest episodes in the entire series. Its placement in the season is bizarre. The plot is nonsensical.
    • Season 7, Episode 13 – “The Killer in Me” The episode tries to deal with the idea of Willow’s grief in the aftermath of Season Six, and it couldn’t fumble the ball any harder.
    • Season 4, Episode 5 – “Beer Bad” If you speak to any Buffy scholar, there’s a good chance “Beer Bad” will appear in their list of worst episodes. It’s a really odd one – almost puritanical in its views about the effects of alcohol, as an ale at the campus bar turns patrons into Neanderthals.
    • Season 6, Episode 14 – “Older and Far Away” A really odd episode in the wider arc of Season Six, because it’s just kind of… there. It sits before the Xander/Anya shenanigans, and after the whole “Willow is a magic junkie” plot.
  5. May 25, 2024 · Buffy the Vampire Slayer owes much of its success to its careful balance of comedy, drama and action, never skimping on each. As touching as it is to see messy human pathos onscreen, it's the action where the show and its memorable visuals really shined.
