Ravel had long toyed with the idea of building a composition from a single theme which would grow simply through harmonic and instrumental ingenuity. Boléro’s famous theme came to him on holiday in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
Boléro is a 1928 work for large orchestra by French composer Maurice Ravel. It is one of Ravel's most famous compositions. [2] It was also one of his last completed works before illness diminished his ability to write music.
‘Boléro’ became Ravel's most famous composition, much to the surprise of the composer, who had predicted that most orchestras would refuse to play it. This was not his only recorded negative view of the piece.
