Routine Paramount western from the R.G. Springsteen/A.C. Lyles team is a curiosity because of co-star Linda Darnell, at age 40 appearing in her first feature since 1957. Reportedly a delight on the western’s set, Darnell died from a house fire a month before the premiere, making BLACK SPURS her final screen appearance.

Unfortunately, despite having a ton of potential, Springsteen's Black Spurs didn't live up to the good natured, mediocre standard set by those other films, and feels both overstuffed and interminable at 80 minutes.
