From its ancient Roman ruins to its two-ton astronomical clock, it’s a city that I keep going back to. In this post, I’ll share with you the most amazing things to do in Besançon.
- Citadel Of Besancon. It is a 17th-century citadel designed by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. This 11 hectares fortress is located on Mount Saint- Etienne.
- Besancon Cathedral. This Romanesque to Baroque-style cathedral dates back as far as the 9century. It is a Roman Catholic Church dedicated to Saint John.
- Astronomical Clock. It is housed in the Besancon cathedral. Auguste-Lucient Vérité of Beauvais was commissioned to design and build the clock between 1858 and 1863 by Cardinal Mathieu, the Archbishop of Besancon.
