Beitou was once a small village known for its sulfur mines, but in the early 20th century it became a popular tourist destination due to the development of hot spring resorts.

The main Hot Spring action takes place at the Xinbeitou sub-dsitrict with the Beitou Park being your starting point to exploring the Hot Spring culture of the area.
