An American Crime is the most brutal evocation of wrongdoing to appear in quite a while; it is hardly a pleasure to watch. But it is also one of the best television movies to appear in years.
A non-fiction horror film, hard to watch but important. I attended the world premiere of "An American Crime" at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. Among the several decidedly downbeat films I saw this past week, this one was by far the hardest to watch.

The true crime approach with dialogue ripped straight from actual testimony and the heartbreaking ending made this film arguably darker. Ellen Page is wonderful as Sylvia Likens, she just has this innocent nature to her that amplified the violent aspects of the film.
