After Rabbit's case of stage fright at the beginning of the movie, this is the first instance the audience gets to see that he actually has some freestyle talent. Rabbit and his friends pull up to a parking lot with a small group trading verses. Among those shown in the scene are hip-hop artists Njeri Earth and Obie Trice, Eminem's long-time friend...

Rabbit faces off with Lotto (Nashawn "Ox" Breedlove) in his penultimate rap battle. However, by then, Rabbit's talents are honed and Lotto just doesn't bring enough to stand a chance. Breedlove brings a lot of energy and his delivery is hugely entertaining, but the content is just not very impressive. However, he does get in one funny line mistakin...

Eminem's actual music career has often been criticized for the use of homophobic language, but Rabbit is a character with a little more empathy in 8 Mile. When Paul is being tormented for being gay on his lunch break at the car factory, Rabbit steps in to defend his friend. It remains a little problematic when he defends him while still using homop...

This is where we move into some big-time freestyle skill. Lickety-Splyt (Strike) is Rabbit's first opponent in the climactic rap battle and he comes in with a lot of confidence. He does an expert job of throwing everything at Rabbit that could potentially throw him off balance, from his previous instances of choking on stage to the fact that he is ...

After his disastrous previous attempts on the same stage, Rabbit had to do a lot of work in winning over the crowd. To add to the pressure, everyone in the venue seems pretty excited about what they just heard from Lickety, but Rabbit turns the expectations upside down within just a couple of seconds. He goes straight in on him, assessing and attac...

While Lotto’s attempt to discourage Rabbit was pretty average, he was about to be completely silenced by the underdog (who, in fairness, wasn’t much of an underdog by this point). The thing that makes Eminem such an impressive rapper is his ability to work reference after reference into his work in a way that others just can’t manage. Rather than g...

When Rabbit finally taps into his confidence on stage, he shows a talent for turning everything his opponents have to say around on them. In the final battle, Papa Doc (Anthony Mackie) thinks he has found a way to avoid that by having Rabbit go first. That proves to be his downfall as Rabbit proceeds to lay bare every insult Papa Doc would have com...

  2. 8 Mile is a good song, but it's a bit longer than it needs to be, and the second verse isn't that great.

It is also worth noting that 8 Mile rap battles which are among the best moments in the movie and feature some epic freestyle verses are not featured on the soundtrack.
