I actually always end up watching the hour long recut of this movie on YouTube, it has just enough of the middle section but cuts a lot of it out and makes for a better paced movie. The opening is intense as hell and that part at the end where she’s looking at the closet is creepy.
When A Stranger Calls has one of the most iconic openings of any horror movie (which is why it was homaged in Scream). Problem is, it's so good, that it sort of makes the rest of the movie dull by comparison.
It’s not groundbreaking, but it is deeply relatable and effective. The suspense is well done and honestly the entire movie is better than it gets kudos for. Far better movies have come along, and yet none have gotten me like the “inside the house/dead best friend” reveal of this movie. Let’s give it some love!
