- While this one does have a lot to like, there are a few minor flaws. Despite its best intentions, there's little it can do to ignore its low-budget trappings, plagued with horrible sound design that renders a lot of the dialog to be incomprehensible due to the on-location recordings.

With a 113-minute runtime, THE BUTCHER is a longer-than-average low budgeteer, but makes it worth it by building up its characters and allowing the actors to amply show their acting chops. This investment, in turn, is made worth it by the seriously good cast.
The Butcher is a dark and gritty story about a man with nothing to lose, made in the style of the classic movies of the same kind in 70's. Eric Roberts is good in the title role and most of the actors do their job quite well.

Jul 10, 2009 · A mob enforcer is set up to take the fall for a multi-million dollar heist involving a rival gang boss. Merle (Eric Roberts) is a gambler stuck on a twenty-year losing streak, but his luck is about to change.
The Butcher isn't a bad horror movie but it isn't a great one either. The film borrows heavily from other horror flicks like, The Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - so don't expect a new story here. The acting was pretty good considering the weak script.
Merle Hench (Eric Roberts), nicknamed "The Butcher", is a henchman for gangster Murdoch (Robert Davi) until Hench takes the fall for his boss. Having survived, Hench will earn his nickname on a mission for revenge.
