- "Society" is a poorly written, but ultra gory horror story made in 1989 by "Re-Animator" producer Brian Yuzna. But, don't go thinking this is a guilty pleasure. "Re-Animator" was a vastly superior film.

Society is probably his most well known movie work but his stuff in Faust, Freaked, Nightmare on Elm Street 3/4 and Bride of Reanimator is great too. He also designed the Slipknot masks for most of their looks besides the initial masks and the latest ones if I recall correctly.
Dreary suburban drama with a goopy horror finale, Society seems to be about a whole lot of ideas - when in truth it presents one or two pedestrian concepts and then repeats them ad nauseum.
In closing, Brian Yuzna's 'Society' is a memorable movie, though it is far from perfect. The narrative is peppered with unnecessary sub-plots and cliches, while screenwriters Fry and Daniel's secondary characterisation leaves a lot to be desired.

The movie itself was good. I liked the sense of mystery and dread that was present throughout. Sure, the tension may not be as strong as in a David Fincher thriller, but Yuzna does enough to keep you hooked.
In Beverly Hills, a teenager's ideal existence (sporting prowess, hot girlfriend, affluent parents) comes into question when he glimpses disturbing goings on (orgies, perversion, adultery) beneath...
Yeah, Society is one of my favorites. Even though it was mostly a funny movie, it had some of the most disturbing imagery I've ever seen. Wish there were more films like it.
