She will not break out of it renewed and beautiful, and not without force. It can be hard to accept the fragility of fantasy. Devastatingly, tragically, Senso pushes it to its limits.
Senso is a 1954 Italian historical melodrama film directed and co-written by Luchino Visconti, based on Camillo Boito's novella of the same name. Set during the Third Italian War of Independence , the film follows the Italian Contessa Livia Serpieri ( Alida Valli ), who has an affair with the Austrian Lieutenant Franz Mahler ( Farley Granger ).
Only one issue. I really struggle to like the opera. I am uncultured in that way, and have no problem admitting it. Likewise, I struggle with a Visconti film. There are important themes in Senso and good performances. Inside Italy it is recognized as one the 100 most important films for cultural preservation.
