Animated series can get away with being based on truly bats**t crazy ideas, simply because you're less likely to question what you're looking at than you would with live-action shows.
Take the wildly successful BoJack Horseman, which follows the life of a depressed humanoid horse in Hollywood. Or Big Mouth, which explores the trials of puberty through a series of anthropomorphic hormone monsters.
