Nov 21, 2003 · The movie introduces several intriguing characters, including Sheriff Ryan (John Carroll Lynch) and Phil Parsons (Bernard Hill), the prison warden. And it teases us with the possibility that any of them — or Pete, of course — could be behind the monstrous misunderstanding.
The movie has a fair number of logical inconsistencies - especially the ending. I mean Miranda is freed at the end, because it's revealed her husband indeed was a rapist with the other guard. But how does that change the fact Miranda murdered him with an axe?
If this statement were an exact science then "Gothika" would be one movie to avoid at all costs, with its all-star ensemble cast including Halle Berry, Robert Downey Jr., Penelope Cruz, Charles S. Dutton, Bernard Hill and John Caroll Lynch.
I always liked it, definitely worth a watch. I enjoyed it. It won't change your life but it is interesting and entertaining. I certainly don't consider it to be the worst horror film ever, and even watched it not too long ago after years of forgetting it existed.
