Evil Dead II (also known in publicity materials as Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn) [6] is a 1987 American comedy horror film directed by Sam Raimi, who co-wrote it with Scott Spiegel. The second installment in the Evil Dead film series, it is considered both a remake and sequel (or "requel") [7] to The Evil Dead (1981).
Evil dead 2 is actually supposed to be a continuation of the first movie. The reason it feels like a parody, or a remake sometimes, is because they spend the first 10 minutes recapping the original. Also, since they couldn't afford the rights to the original footage, they had to reshoot all of the recap with new actors.
It's why Evil Dead II is a toned dowm, semi-remake of the first movie. The over-the-top comedy kept the tone from becoming too dark. This is at least partially accurate. The original intentions for Evil Dead II was to deliver an R Rated movie. That's why half the blood in the movie is green.
