  6. Jan 19, 2022 · I read “A Gentleman in Moscow” right after reading (OK, skimming much of) “Where the Crawdads Sing”. Very much liked the former, very much didn’t like the latter. Both were, in their way, fairy tales, where the good end happily and the bad unhappily, but the characters in the Towles book came alive for me and I cared about them.

  8. A Gentleman in Moscow – 4.5/5. A Gentleman in Moscow is my first sleeper hit of the year. Yes, I’d heard good things about it but I did not expect to find it quite so light and heart-warming. Towles’ writing is a joy to behold and makes you, the reader, feel like a gentleman (or equivalent) whilst reading it.
