1. Saw
Saw, the first entry of this mega-horror franchise, is actually unlike all the other Saw movies. It's largely set in one room and acts like a menacing, lethal escape room as a dirtbag doctor (Cary Elwes) and a sleazy photographer (writer Leigh Whannell) are forced to violently save their own lives by playing a mysterious game set in place by an unseen madman. Naturally, there's a killer twist at the end, the first of many shocking reveals these movies would unleash. Read our review of Saw.
2. Saw X

The film goes into the details of John Kramer attempting to cure his cancer. If you don't want to be spoiled about the details you'll just have to watch it yourself. You can start with the first film and move straight to this one before finishing the rest of the series. Read our review of Saw X.
3. Saw II
Saw II greatly expanded the wicked world of Saw, giving trap-setter Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) a face and voice, along with motivations and convictions. Acting as a cruel dungeon master, Jigsaw runs a "game" with multiple participants, each he wants to teach a valuable lesson, including the son of an abusive homicide detective (Donnie Wahlberg). - Half of 'Jigsaw' The actual test taking place in 2017's Jigsaw, which sees five people—each with a horrible secret—wake up in a deathtrap-filled barn, is actually one of the very first games orchestrated by John Kramer, taking place well before the events of Saw.
- 'Saw' In terms of the main, current-day storyline being told by the Saw franchise, James Wan's original film is the starting block. However, as revealed through many, many subsequent flashbacks, this isn't even close to Kramer's first trap, and by this point, he had already recruited two conspirators: Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) and Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor).
- 'Saw X' Saw X takes place just a few weeks after the events of Saw with John Kramer being given his cancer diagnosis and finding hope of a cure through a member of his cancer support group, which takes him on a trip to Mexico.
