Feb 21, 2020 · Go past the mausoleum of Emperor Tenji for a panoramic view of the Yamashina Basin from the southward side. Actually, this view can only be enjoyed in the winter when the leaves of cherry blossom and maple trees have fallen, and the skies are clear and blue.
In addition to the tombs of emperors and a huge temple, Yamashina is famous for its pottery, with everything from tea bowls to beautifully decorated wares for every day use, including plates and even coffee cups.

Yamashina Canal is a part of the Lake Biwa waterway located on the easternmost side of Kyoto in Japan. Its 4-kilometers long banks provide a pleasant green walk by the water, highlighted by seasonal flowerings, especially the sakura in the beginning of spring.
It has been selected as one of Kyoto's top 200 natural areas (Historical Natural Environment Category), and its scenery is protected as a scenic area. I went with my best friend to see Somei Yoshino in bloom, but unfortunately it wasn't in bloom yet.

Enjoy the scenery of the four seasons around the Yamashina area and Yamashina Canal, and visit the place related to “Chushingura” Oishi built-in assistant. Yamashina, located on the east side of Kyoto City, beyond Kujoyama, is a small basin surrounded by mountains on three sides, and has an elongated shape from north to south.
