How Leveling Up Works in Hogwarts Legacy

As a role-playing game set in a school for wizardry, gaining experience to level up in Hogwarts Legacy isn't as straightforward as you might think. It's very easy to overlook exactly how experience is gained as you play through your Hogwarts adventure, and this guide will inform you of how leveling works, the maximum level you can reach, and also how to level up quickly in Hogwarts Legacy.
You'll start from level one in Hogwarts Legacy, and as you continue to progress through the game, you'll earn experience from undertaking certain tasks such as Quests, Side Quests, Challenges, and collecting Field Guide Pages. The maximum level that you can achieve in Hogwarts Legacy is level 40.
While it may not be immediately apparent how leveling helps your character - it's important to remember you're still just a 5th year student at a school.
As you level up, you'll gain the following bonuses:
•Maximum Health Gain (the amount gained each level will increase the higher your level gets).
•Talent Points (The Talent Tree will be unlocked after completing the Main Quest, Jackdaw's Rest, and will retroactively add talent points for all previously gained levels.
•The ability to equip higher level gear (and find new gear at or around your current level.
•Unlocking of certain side quests and activities.
Unlike most RPGs, simply running around and defeating monsters or dark wizards won't always give you the experience you're looking for to grow in power. In fact, you won't level up at all during the Prologue of the game even after getting into some nasty fights.
It's not until you're sorted into one of the four Hogwarts Houses and Professor Weasley gives you a quick tour that you'll be introduced to the conduit for your learning experience - the Field Guide Book. It can be pretty easy too overlook the brief tool-tip that spells it all out: Experience is gained by completing Field Guide Book Challenges. What may not be as clear is that these Challenges are the ONLY way to gain experience in Hogwarts Legacy. This is because all the major activities you take part in - from main questlines to collectible hunting - feed into Field Guide Book Challenges, buy only to a certain point.
This means that as you defeat enemies, grab collectibles, or complete quests that relate to a certain challenge in your Field Guide Book, you'll gain experience for each enemy or item that is tallied towards the challenge goal - as well as meeting the goal itself.
However: Once you have fully completed that challenge, you will not get ANY more experience for continuing, which includes defeating more of that enemy type, finding more of that collectible in the region, or whatever that challenge required. For example, while there are 150 Field Guide Pages in Hogwarts Castle alone, you'll only gain experience for collecting them for the challenge tiers that add up to 100 pages total. Any pages gained after that will not grant any experience, but you can still gain more by collecting Field Guide Pages in Hogsmeade or The Highlands regions - to a certain point.
The list below includes all the types of challenges that you can gain experience from undertaking - though many will be unlocked as you progress further into the story, though others can be undertaken during any point in your adventures:
