Cub Scouts, often shortened to Cubs, are a section of Scouting operated by The Scout Association with a core age of eight to ten and a half years of age. [2] This section follows on from the Beaver Scouts (6–8 year olds) and precedes the Scout section (10½–14 year olds).
Joining Cubs. The first step to becoming a Cub is to find your nearest Pack using our finder tool. Membership is managed locally, so the easiest way to get started is to reach out to a local leader to see if spaces are available and find out more about where and when the group meets.

Speak to your local Leader about the various roles available. How much time you give is completely up to you. Whether you help out once a fortnight, month, term or just at special events or camps, there is bound to be a role for you.

How old are Cub Scouts? Cubs typically range from 8 to 10½ years old, but we offer flexibility within Scouts guidelines. Young people as young as 7½ may join if ready, and we'll discuss this with you upon joining.

Closer to home, they’re also part of a wider local scout group, alongside beavers (aged 6 to 8) and scouts (aged 10 ½ to 14). When they're older, they can join explorers (for 14 to 18 year olds) and - eventually - scout network (for our young adult members aged 18 to 25).
