2 Income from the National Lottery
The net interest on the Players’ Trust Fund for 2019-20 (a separate Trust established by the Licensee for the protection of players, under Condition 19 of the Section 5 Licence) was deemed receivable by the NLDF, at that time, by the Trustees (the Law Debenture Trust Corporation plc). However, no interest was received in 2020-21, which resulted in the reversal in 2020-21. These categories are defined in the ‘Where the money comes from’ section of the Performance report overview.
3 Investment income
The NLDF’s objective is to provide for the lottery distributing bodies’ liquidity needs, and to maximise returns over the medium term. The range of permitted investments is restricted to those contained within a direction made by HM Treasury, and is implemented by CRND. All investments in 2021-22 were held as call notice deposits. The increase in investment income is due to an increase in the average interest rate on deposits in 2021-22 to 0.19% (2020-21: 0.10%).

The external auditors did not provide any non-audit services in 2021-22 (2020-21: nil).
Thanks to National Lottery players, the equivalent of £36 million was generated every week for Good Causes across the UK in 2022/23 – money that has played a crucial role in supporting people and projects through the cost of living crisis, as well as helping to bring communities together to celebrate key national moments.
