Jun 6, 2009 · Bryston 4b Sst2 (£4000) Revamped since our first review back in May '07 and tested here with matching BP26 preamp, the 4B SST2 boasts even greater transparency and grip. There’s a reassuring matter-of-factness about the design and construction of Bryston’s amplifiers.
The clarity and purity is very good. It is a class AB amp but it seams that the bias current is quite high which results in a power consumption at 100 W idle, so my guess is that this amp works as a class A amp for most listening situations (at lower volume settings). OVERALL. RATING.

As with any piece of audio equipment, the Bryston 4B SST will not be everything to everybody. While it handles all aspects of the musical frequencies evenly, it does so in an ever-so-slightly lean manner. But that’s the price you pay for the 4B SST being a solid-state amp.
The 4B SST² ($4195 USD) looks very similar to the original 4B SST, with only a few subtle outward changes. First, the logo is now engraved on the front panel with no shading, making it blend more easily into the faceplate.
