Aug 24, 1998 · August 24, 1998. In the mid-’80s, the ACTRA Awards, an in-house, untelevised awards ceremony, was the only event honoring Canadian television. Robert Lantos, then president of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, felt the awards didn’t do justice to the industry.
On television, his series – including Power Play, Due South, North of 60 and ENG – have won the Banff International Television Award for Best Drama Series and 10 Gemini Awards for best drama series. Until September 21, 1998, Mr. Lantos was Chairman, CEO and controlling shareholder of Alliance Communications Corporation.
