MS Queen Elizabeth (QE[2]) is a cruise ship of the Vista class operated by the Cunard Line. The design is modified compared to earlier ships of the same class, and slightly larger than Queen Victoria, at 92,000 GT. This is due to a more vertical stern, and additional cabins for single travelers.
A decade on from her launch in 2010, we celebrate ten things that set Queen Elizabeth apart as a unique member of Cunard's iconic fleet. With art deco features, a unique sports deck and the famous red funnel, Queen Elizabeth is one of the most recognisable ships in the world.
The beginning. Built as a sister ship to Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth joined the Cunard fleet in 2010. She is, in part, a tribute to those eponymous ships who came before her – the original Queen Elizabeth, in the 1930s, and the well-loved Queen Elizabeth 2, better known as ‘the QE2’.
Aug 25, 2023 · Cunard’s ships range in size from Queen Mary 2 at 149,215 GT to Queen Victoria at 90,049 GT. To put those numbers into perspective, the largest cruise ship in the world, Icon of the Seas , is 248,663 GT.
All four of the large Cunard-White Star express liners, the two Queens, Aquitania and Mauretania survived, but many of the secondary ships were lost. Both Lancastria and Laconia were sunk with heavy loss of life.
Today Cunard is known for its three Queens. Flagship QM2 is the only true transatlantic ocean liner in service, while Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth offer a contemporary Cunard cruise experience. However Cunard’s ships were not always associated with Queens.
