A list of deaths in Hollyoaks, on-screen and off-screen. Hollyoaks is specially known for its very frequent deaths, particularly since 2006.
There have been a total of 243 deaths on Hollyoaks: 170 on-screen deaths and 61 off-screen deaths. There have also been 26 fake deaths, 7 historical deaths and 5 deaths that have been mentioned to have taken place (off-screen) prior to the show's first episode on 23rd October 1995.
On-screen deaths
A list of character deaths depicted on-screen or implied to be occuring during a scene. For example: Niall Rafferty's fall from a cliff was seen on-screen in entirety, whilst Silas Blissett's murder of Lindsey Roscoe was implied with a pan to photographs of her family. This list is sorted by episode transmission date, with a notation if this was set on another date. For example: the deaths of Mel and Sophie Burton took place in Episode 1861 (8th September 2006), and their headstones in 2573 list their death dates as "8th September 2006". Meanwhile, Rob Hawthorn's death in Episode 395 (28th December 1999) was mentioned in Episode 400 as taking place on "31st December 1999". This list also contains deaths in flashback scenes, with the actual in-universe date being denoted.
Off-screen deaths
A list of character deaths that have been mentioned as dead, taking place outside of a scene. This could be due to a character receiving news through a phone call (such as Cormac Ranger), being informed in-person by a family member (such as Mr. Harrison), a mention in passing by another character (such as Andy Morgan), or the character not being seen at all until their body is discovered (such as Charlotte Mandelson). Family members of existing characters who have died off-screen are added to this list, even if they have never been mentioned before as alive. For example, Diane Hutchinson first appeared in 2010 and her sister Babs Drinkwell was mentioned to have died in 2017.
Historical deaths
A historical death is when a character is mentioned to be dead prior to the first appearance of any connected characters. For example, the death of Steven Banks took place before the first appearances of Nikki Sullivan and Dan Sanders. This list also contains characters who have appeared in flashbacks in which the character was not killed, such as Kashif Maalik who died five years before the Maalik family first appeared.
