    Former American film director and actor primarily known for his director work in the 1940 motion picture film Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe. Throughout his 23-year career, he filmed over 159 films for Fox Films and Universal Pictures.

    In the beginning of his career, he was an actor and stage manager in Minnesota. However, his acting career was then put on hold because he was enlisted in the US Army to fight in WWI.

    After returning home from the service, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he start would start his directing career as an assistant director at Fox Films. Just a few years later, he would eventually land an opportunity to become a head director at Universal Pictures.

    He was born and raised in the area of Perham, Minnesota. He had one son named Ray Taylor Jr., who would also work as an assistant director in Hollywood.
