Apr 1, 2021 · Since the law’s creation 40 years ago, 336 people have been sentenced to death in Ohio. Five of those people received two death sentences, resulting in a total of 341 death sentences.
Since Ohio reinstated the death penalty in October 1981, 3,423 capital indictments have been filed, resulting in 341 death sentences for 336 individuals (five individuals received two death sentences each). As of December 31, 2023, there were 119 individuals (with 121 death sentences) on Ohio’s death row. The last execution was in July 2018.
