Feb 4, 2024 · Mines currently 15 characters long, my new one I’m trying to do is actually shorter at 13. But when I go to change it to the new one it says it can only be 12? Is there some workaround for this, I heard someone say if you change it on the 360 it has the old 16 character limit still.

New Xbox players or those who want to change their gamertag can claim a desired gamertag with up to 12 characters. If a gamertag is already taken, a suffix with numbers is attached to differentiate you from other people with the same gamertag.
Xbox gamertags are limited to a maximum of 12 characters. These characters are in Unicode format and includes an auto-generated suffix (if the gamertag is already in use). The good news is that 13 different alphabets / 200 languages are supported.
On Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows: Gamertags can be up to 12 characters long, including spaces. They can't start with a number. If you receive a message that says a gamertag is unavailable, this means that you'll need to try another.

I understand people’s annoyance at microsoft’s change of the gamertag length mechanics, but it’s not that hard to figure out an acceptable gamertag to suit your style within 12 characters, especially when you have access to special symbols/characters as well.
